In Memory of My Daddy

This page is in memory of my daddy, Bill Joe Brafford. He passed away Christmas Day, 2002. He lived here on the farm for over a year.

There is not a horse ridden, nor a show mile driven with out him in our minds.

He was my best friend, my baby sitter, my errand guy, my right hand man while driving down the road, MOST OF ALL, MY DAD!!

The greatest experience of all was the PHBA World show, '02. He was there for us all.

A Day With Mr. Bill
A year ago, just yet; Mr. Bill and I met
He walked in the office, Coffee in hand
And ready to pull up a chair.
Trying to understand
As he watched the computer.
Many stories he'd share.
His favorite story,  I heard many times **smile**
Of a little gal 'bout 10 or 12, he'd say
Gave her a lil' piece of land
And a horse one day.
B'fore long she'd built a little barn out there
And when she was missing
You didn't have to ask where?
She'd be out there until the day
was near done
Don't know that a day went by
She couldn't be found in that field
for some time
Then He'd say, "Cindy, that's
where all this begun."
After a story or two and coffee
A couple of questions here and there
Then in a minute it would get quiet
And soon a light sound of a snore;
Sometimes I'd wonder if
I really was such a bore.
Then the barn door would slam
And around the corner you'd
hear "Daddy" or "Poppy"
And know who was near He'd perk right up
With a smile on his face and a
keen listening ear,
To see who was calling him
As the all were very dear.
Around noon he'd walk in to see about lunch
Whether he was on his own or eating with the whole bunch.
Soon he'd pop in just to say,
"Hey, Gonna go get the boys and take them to do the stuff in town;
See ya tomorrow and have a good day!"
The last few days I was there and he would be around
Once in a while he'd ask, "Am I in your way?"
In a questioning voice so sincere
After reassurance he wasn't .
Things were okay
He'd go on telling stories and
the rest of his day.
A few days ago in his little place
He called home
His struggles were great
But God knew his fate
When he left this land, God took his hand
Saying look over there &
As he looked over there
to see family and friends long gone
I'm sure he went on to say, "Ya see it all started this way . . .
With a smile on his face,
Happiness in his heart
He'll go on telling stories and doing his part.
